The ASI (formerly the AISC) held a meeting on Wednesday 21st February 2001 about the impacts of poor quality design drawings on steel detailers.
From this meeting, a steering committee was established to develop a representative body for detailers.
The first steering committee meeting was 27th of March.
By August that year, the QISD was formally registered and operational.
Bringing the various State based groups under a National name was discussed at the National forum in September 2006 and by November 2007, all state bodies (with the exception of WA) had formally changed their name to AISD.
